  1. Welcome, Kalari, and may Starkiller’s heat embrace you 😀

Glad to hear your 3 cents. What mmo are you playing now?

  2. It might not have what you are looking for in a game, but that does not mean they do not do what they do well. It is strictly a PVE game and I have said that time and time again. They do PVE better than any game out there. That is all I have ever said in regards to LotRO.

Would it be nice to have a more complex combat system? Sure, there are some games out there that have tried. Are those games worth playing? Not in the least or I would be playing them.

Companies need to quit catering to the WoW crowd and in general whinners and dumbing down the “Visons” of thier games. It has happened time and time again since the release of WoW and it needs to stop.

Hopefully Curt Schiling will get things back on track with his game and MMO. Who knows though, only time can tell.

  3. Thanks! For some reason this and some of your others (I think they’re dupes) were marked as spam. IN fact, one of my own was marked as spam by the system.

  4. I just wanted to stop by and thank you. Entertaining and informative as always, Ryan! :-) Gotta’ love it 😀

  5. wow hes a passionate one thats for sure. I play ddo and while it has its flaws stuff I definitely harp on about in forums and my blogs its combat is unmatched and the reason why every other mmo ive tried so far has not held me past a month if that long. Its simple you can make a huge pretty world give mounts flying and what not and still bore people who are looking for that edge. Having the mobs you face go toe to toe with you at the same time knowing that if you dont gear right or know what your up against your going to get “ganked” is a rush for many game players period. And to me ddo has given me that rush and until I find a game that can combine the pretty with the real time ddo will be my game. I wont knock Lotro or any other mmo just havent found one that didnt make me go back to ddo yet.

  6. and not sure if im poking the bear with you and no disrespect intended but everyone is under the misconception that ddo is a failing mmo. Believe me with four years with little to no advertising due to issues with Atari who they are currently in legal proceedings with they have done damned good not to lose a loyal community. Yes we went free to play it was necessary due to not being able to fund for advertising something Atari was responsible for and held back on. Its all over the web you can find it at any game site and its true the game was launched in alpha in late 05 with beta release of Jan 06 little to no advertising was given to a mmo based on Dungeons and Dragons! it makes no sense whatsoever and im sorry for a game to last 4 years on word of mouth people bringing others in and now that it is free going to over a million users in less then a six month period..Come on dude its also advertised on the web the immense success the new system has produced considering we didnt have the funding for Mister T commericals like wow. Now with our new model we are getting housing and new classes and races and other things that we the subscribers clammored for. so if we were so fail believe me they would have just shut the doors. I ask anyone who has any doubts to try the game if you can get threw the first six levels and still hate the game then I have no beef with you. But anyone who has not tried the game and trashes it based on false info well then I have nothing to say to ya.

  7. @Kalari, granted I played ddo for what I think was only 5 or so hours… but that is because it was, to me, so low speed, and non twitch that I was completely bored (as well, I felt it was *lacking depth and was far too repetitive). HOWEVER, I can see why people enjoy it… there are just too many elements missing from DDO, for me, that would make it fun to play, and not a chore. Have you tried DFO? It lacks a lot of deep pve, but it is the most visceral game out by far.

Also, by no fault of Kalari’s, he posted a reply to Star on page one, that is not evident:
    http://blog.mmosmacktalk.com/?p=724#comment-8227

Consequently I might just take out the “Reply” option so that people dont get lost in the conversation. What do you guys think about that?

*Keep in mind, this is pre level 5. Also, as it is important for anyone judging the game to know that I am the kind of guy that doenst really get into quest story lines, etc. For somebody who does, my comment may very well not apply.

  8. Just want to add that it’s possible that I played for more than 5 hours, but I was completely disengaged and waiting for the bad man to stop. 😀

  9. I would have to try DFO ive only heard about it listening to the casts and it sounds interesting. I wont lie though people have tried to get me into other mmo’s and while I tried trial versions of the game most of the time I know by the time my character is created if im going to last and I will try to get to at least level 10 before I know if its not for me. Im currently waiting on trying star trek online to just to be objective since so many people have said it sucks im the kind that needs to know for myself. I will give dfo a look though see if its my cup of tea.

  10. @Kal I did try DDO and I am an avid DnD fan and still have and occasionally play PnP. My information is first hand and not false. DDO having a million people playing after becoming free does not make it a success. The game failed regardless if they shut the doors or not, so by your logic Vanguard is a success and did not fail because the doors are still open when it is not a Station Pass game, SoEs equivalent to a free game?

If you like the game good for you and I am glad you find it a game you are happy with, but it does not mean DDO is a successful game. Just curious, why do you and the other DDO fanbois keep bringing up WoW? I do not use WoW as a point of reference, it is an utter and complete piece of shit. It is singlehandedely ruining the MMO fantasy genere.

As far as how much of DDO someone experiences and thier opinion on the game, we can do the same for LotRO. If you have not played into Moria than your opinon is null and void and means nothing. I bet the DDO fanbois won’t like that retort one bit.

You can choose to go back to a game after trying it and seeing if it improves, but guess what? I will not do that and as a consumer that is my right. If I go play a game after launch and it is a piece of crap, not ready for release or completely broken and unenjoyable, I will never go back to that game in the future. Developers need to learn to stop releasing crap and waiting till it is ready or do not release at all.

This trend of paying to help developers get games ready for release is a very flawed philosophy on the consumers end. Until people start refusing to play broken games and giving them second chances, developers and publishers will keep putting crap on the market that is not ready.
