Game Discussion and Analysis:

  • Darkfall Online (DFO): open pvp, full loot, loads of asses to kick.
  • Mortal Online (MO): softcore DFO??? Good graphics, free for all pvp with an L2 style spin.
  • and many more…
  • Stray Bullet Games (No Name Yet): from the makers of Shadowbane, comes a mystery meat mmo. Will this be first person perspective, sandbox, loot, full loot? Nobody knows, YET, not even God.
  • (Aion): from the makers of L2, comes another L2 with upgraded graphics and flying? Not exactly sure what to make of this yet, once we have an idea we will cast on it. I do plan to have an Aion “buff” on future cast (actually have one lined up :D).

  1. Oh so true. The hype is actually the best time of every game. Everything’s awesome, nothing disappoints.

Great cast, loved the whole show.

  2. @Ed: You cracked me up and its cool to see that someone who is almost my dad’s age so into video games. It was also great insight to hear about crafting from Dark Age of Camelot, as I never played that MMO. I feel your pain when you talked about EQ and having to rest for mana regen. Also, glad to hear that of all things your main gripe about DFO was the way people send you tells in the interface. I laughed so hard as it is something an old man would complain about, LMAO.

  3. @Yakboy: But he’s right, isn’t he? How often would you send tells and be pissed because you don’t get any answer.

  4. @Nizzie: I am sure it’s a problem but funny to hear that getting private messages were the one thing that bugged him the most.

  5. Just to clarify the chat issues that Ed mentioned 😀 :
1.) The chat interface is sort of similar to google chrome. Each new person that you chat to gets their own tab. each tab is removable from the main window (like chrome). So ed removed a bunch of these tabs and had them in various positions about his screen. As he was done chatting people, he would kill these various tabs. Upon relogging, ALL tabs that he ever removed from the main window and placed on about his were reincarnated. So if over the lifetime of Ed’s gaming he chatted 100 people and spread their tabs all over his screeen, upon logging in he would see all 100 all over his screeen… every time. hahaha. I never had this issue.
2.)when somebody sends you a tell a new tab is created. that new tab is added to the RIGHT of the last chat tab in your chat box (think of when you add another tab in chrome). if you have 10 people chat you, odds are that a few of them will be to off to the right beyond the display capability of the chat box, which means that you wont know that anybody wrote you unless you are really paying attention. to see who wrote you, you have to basically scroll to the right. I agree with ed here, this sucks. I think that perhaps the chat should populate left rather than right… but then again, if you get spammed by people wanting ot get your attention, then your current chat tab would be kicked to the right and disappear under your nose. I suppose they could make an exception for the active tab though.

  6. Ah, now I get it. I wouldn’t want to log in anymore when I knew that I’d have to close this huge amount of tabs each time. Haha.

  7. After hearing this cast I had to check out Meridian 59. There is a free server at http://www.Meridian59.net. It’s very old school and is not the official one that ahs the new graphics engine and more customization at http://www.Meridian59.com. However, they didn’t have a trail. This game is very new and interesting how there are no levels and you have skills and such. Tonight there was an entire 12 people online, LOL. Earlier some dude did give me some armor, shield and gold. Which is good since i died before then and lost all my stuff but didn’t have much, lol. There is no one to PVP with currently. If the pay for site has a bigger community then that would be much better. So far haven’t been able to find any quests and just grinding on mobs that I can kill. I did run into one other person who just made faces at me and then logged off, lol. I will keep you guys posted.

  8. Meridian 59 update. I think that is DFO did not exist this game would be great. It’s only 10.95 a month and they updated their graphic engine to be smooth and not pixelated since it uses directx 9. You get it free when you sign up for the monthly free at http://meridian59.neardeathstudios.com/index.shtml and that is the official version. Right now it just hurts my eyes to play it unfortunately. With having more then 13 people on line and being able to do PVP and get help to find starter quest would be great. If I wasn’t going to play DFO then I would be playing this game on the official server. The free private server only lets you make one character per account and you can’t delete them, HAHAHAHA.

  9. @Ryan: Hells yeah playing a free server not the official one. I am playing it right now. I am playing in windowed mode. It’s a smaller screen but doesn’t hurt my eyes.

  10. @Yak: Awesome… on both M59 and D&D. My bro played D&D and actually enjoyed the pve elements. So cant wait to talk about it with you!

  11. Damn, that’s what I just wanted to write about Yakboy. I already downloaded the game and right now I’m almost level 3. It’s a nice game, if you like dungeons und teamplay it’s definitly worth checking out.

  12. @Ryan: Oh I am playing DFO (right now even), DDO is just something on the side if I’m too depressed because of mean pks or simply need some distraction (in that case I also enjoy Street Fighter IV). I’m definitly going to stay at DFO for a while.

  13. @Ryan: I actually had a lot of fun with DDO. It is a hard PVE MMO and it is true to the table top. When you do quests you are in an instance and if you die then you start it over. You can do hard and Elite modes. Plus you don’t get XP for just killing mobs only for completing the quests. I can’t wait o talk about it as well.

  14. @Nizzie: I just found out that once you reach level 4 that you are capped until you get a sigil token. They are a very rare drop from what I hear people say. Other wife you buy them from the DDO store, one for every 4 levels. I don’t know how much they are yet. By the way I am playing on the very first server, the only one that Begins with an A.

  15. @Yakboy: Server ‘Argonnessen’? I started playing a cleric because I thought being a healer wouldn’t be a bad choice. I obviously was wrong, yester almost all the people (5 out of 7) were either clerics or favoured souls. So I’m gonna hit the forums today and find out what classes are the least played at the moment, I heard rogue would often be needed in groups, I played one in beta so I’d be cool with that. What class do you play?

  16. Oh.. and I heard of those sigil tokens too. I wouldn’t mind some grinding (not for days!) and would even consider buying it for a reasonable price.

  17. @nizzie: Yes, Argonnessen is the server that I am playing on. My toon’s name is FaFafooey. Give me a tell if you are on. Rogues are very cool because they are disarm traps and have better search I believe. I am playing a ranger. It’s a a lot of fun since you don’t lock on to your target and ahve to aim to use the bow. I am sure fighters can use a bow but not sure though. I think at higher levels I can make acid arrows and such. It’s the first MMO that I played where you can actually sue a bow at point blank range. I think its cool for 10 gold you can buy 1 Merc to help you for an hour. There are loads of Clerics since heals are very good in that game. Playing a wizard would be very challenging and haven’t seen any low level one yet, lol. I may have to make an alt and try that or a Paladin. Luckily you only get 2 character slots for free so my ALT Idas won’t be too bad.

  18. @Yakboy: Alright, I started playing a rogue on Argonnessen named Nifar Fingerbiter. As a ranger you should definitly make a better archer then fighters since you get all those archery feats for free.

  19. @nizzie: I just met this cool guild the befriended me and gave me a tone of gold, weapons and stuff. Shit, I may have to actually buy this game. I really wanted to get into DFO but this game is soooo much damn fun. I’ll add you to my friend list and hook you up if you need some gold and stuff.

  20. @Yakboy: Yesterday I got lucky, found the sigil token as a quest reward after doing the waterwork quest line. Hell, now I’m almost lvl 4 and it’s really fun.

  21. @Nizzie: Very cool man! I made another character and OMG with a fighter its very cool combat wise you can solo quests with hard difficulty. However, being a Rouge seems like fun as hell being able to find hidden doors and disarm traps.

  22. @Yakboy: Haha, I made another character too. I guess I’ll stick to a cleric now. He’s lvl 3 now and also got his sigil token. Arisar Kin the name, just give me a tell if you need some healing!

  23. His comments on DFO I may not agree with. I believe the devs have the right idea and everything he commented on I believe the devs have heard a millions times and have a better explanation to why its the way it is.

Most importantly His User Interface comment. Please wait till he sees Mortal Online’s UI. Darkfalls UI is YEARS ahead of MO. I personally could not think of a better way to make DFO UI.

    So I guess I am a 15 YO idiot.

  24. @Beleg: I agree with you about DFO’s interface in general. I am typically happy with it. I think Ed’s primary gripes were the chat box issue, which almost nobody experiences, and minor stuff such as toggling between hotbars while in the second state does not respond to all the state 1 commands… such as shift + wheel.
