Game Discussion and Analysis:

  • Darkfall Online (DFO): open pvp, full loot, loads of asses to kick.
  • Mortal Online (MO): softcore DFO??? Good graphics, free for all pvp with an L2 style spin.
  • and many more…
  • Stray Bullet Games (No Name Yet): from the makers of Shadowbane, comes a mystery meat mmo. Will this be first person perspective, sandbox, loot, full loot? Nobody knows, YET, not even God.
  • (Aion): from the makers of L2, comes another L2 with upgraded graphics and flying? Not exactly sure what to make of this yet, once we have an idea we will cast on it. I do plan to have an Aion “buff” on future cast (actually have one lined up :D).

  1. It’s tough to go back to UO’s view, I agree, but back in the day I actually loved it and had a hard time getting used to staring at my Warcraft character’s buttocks.

  2. @nizzie: LMAO. OU was not my cup of tea for sure. There weren’t any good quests to get started and having to click the mouse for everything I hate. DFO is looking better and better.

  3. @yak et al: RE:”@Ryan: That would be awesome man!!! If you need any help please let me know!!!” <– if anyone has some good ideas for a shift in the current layout… I’m open, BUT laziness IS a factor. Since this is primarily a podcast site I’m not interested in morphing this into an mmorpg.com, etc. Then again, if I’m provided with a simple layout that might take a little bit of time, perhaps I’ll just slowly work towards it. So if anybody has any wants, let me know.

  4. @Ryan: What about adding forums with different tops and having users sign up? For now are you just talking about giving the site a face lift?

  5. @Ryan: Got ya, figured it would be a pain in the ass to admin. That really sucks about the spam, didn’t realize that.

  6. @Connor: In about an hour I’m finished downloading the client. Let’s hope we’ll be able to play today at all.

  7. @Connor & Nizzie: You guys will have to let us know what your first impressions are of the beta. Also, I want to know if the game is really innovative or if it’s just the coolness factor since its a new MMO.I want to know if you see your self still playing it a few months for now if if it’s just another EQ clone with wings.

  8. @nizzie: Thanks for sharing. That character creator looks awesome!!! What MMO’s are you currently playing? Have you or are you currently playing DFO?

  9. @Yakboy: I’ve got an active subscription for EVE (one week or so) and Darkfall. I’m also in the beta for MO, but I rarely log in.

Darkfall is a lot of fun atm, I actually had to force myself playing Aion right now.

  10. Ok, I almost reached lvl9 when the server went offline and since it’s almost 2am this is it for today.

Over all I’m a little disappointed, the controls feel a bit ‘sluggish’ (don’t know if that’s the right word), combat is ‘ok’ (nothing special), I gathered a fair amount of mats but didn’t find any crafting trainers yet (maybe I’m just blind/dumb), the quests are good – there’s some variety and sometimes spoken cutscenes. The game’s good, but I expected more because of the hype I guess.

I haven’t tested any pvp or flying yet, so I bet there’s a whole lot more to the game. I guess I’ll find out tomorrow.

  11. @nizzie Good to hear man! Keep us updated with Aion. By the way are you playing DFO on the US server?

  12. @nizzie: Ditto on Yakboy’s comment. Keep us posted. Also, you mentioned that you had to force yourself to play Aion. haha. I understand exactly what you mean. Hell, this cast, while mostly about DFO lately, is really about MMOS… and I cant bring myself to spend the life to download and test the game. Basically I find myself at your, and others like you, mercy.

    Thanks!

  13. @Ryan: I had to force my self to play LOTRO just to see if I could go back to that game of a WOW clone. It was worth the 9.99 for the 30 days and the expansion so I could play the Warden and Runekeep class. This puts LOTRO in super easy mode as it was easy to begin with. I speculate that Turbine did this to make newbies able to level faster or people at the level cap who wanted another alt. The funny thing is that everyone now gets a self res with a cool down timer of an hour, fucking week huh.

  14. @Lord Yakens: I’m inclined with you to believe it’s weak (everybody getting a self-rez timer), BUT I also don’t believe that a game should be considered fun only if you had to vomit and bleed in order to obtain a certain level. IF that mechanic makes it more fun, then I’m all for it; however, it seems to reason that such a feature would inherently weaken the healer class.

  15. @Yakboy: No I’m on EU-1, although I’ll definitly consider going to NA-1 as soon as the transfers are open if the player numbers on EU-1 will fall drastically. And about LOTRO, I did exactly the same. I downloaded the client and got myself a trial account because I wanted to check out the new classes (played loremaster a year ago) – just to find out that they aren’t available in trial. Then I thought about reopening my subscription, but 30 € (~ $40) was too much to bear.

@Ryan: For solo playing it’s probably ok, as Yakboy said, for the newbies. But what I admire LOTRO for is the biiiiig instances such as Fornost and Garth Agarwen. They literally took hours to complete, and often resulted in wipes. It was painful, but it was fun and required good teamwork. I can only imagine what a free self-rezz might do to that. Once again, it’s newbie-friendly, but it also makes it much easier. I’m not sure I’d like this in LOTRO.

I’d love to play Darkfall right now, but I assured Aion I’ll be back. Damn promises.

  16. Nizzie: It’s funny that you are having to force your self to play Aion, that is good feedback in it’s self. Less then 2 weeks until I go on vacation, well visit relatives, lol. I will be gone for a week and then I will buy Darkfall. By the way in DFO are you an Alfar as well?

  17. @Yakboy: I played Orc some months ago and rerolled Human last week. Alfar are way too skinny and look like little boys!

I just hit lvl 10 in Aion, specialized from mage to spiritmaster – basically a mage with pets, learned some crafting and skilled up by doing crafter quests, went into the arena (ffa pvp pit), got annoyed (fighting lvl16s while being only lvl10 is no fun) and now I’m taking a little break (semi-afk fishing in Darkfall).

I also got those wings, which allow you to glide every minute or so. It’s nice, run up a hill and save time by gliding which is faster than running. I’m not quite sure but I should be able to fly too – but I simply forgot to try it out.
